Bertie Short at Lafayette Handsome Presentation. Master Bertie Short, the popular little skater, who is so well known patrons of Indianapolis rinks, went to Lafayette last Thursday to spend a coupla of weeks with friends. When In Lafayette three or four weeks ago Berttegave an exhibition of fancy skating at the Palace Rink In tne presence of about 1,000 people. Sa well pleased were they with the exhibition that the manager oi the rink finally induced Bertie, upon his reappearance in that city, to again entertain them, which the little uwonder on wheels" consented to do; so arrangements were made, and he accordingly appeared Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights. The Laiayette papers say that the three exhibitions were witneseed by as many people as could possibly crowd into this large rink, and that ms Kating iar surpassed anything of the kiüd eyer witnessed there. It was made by Tiffany, of New i ork and is the most elegant bad9 ever presented to a Drofeseional skater. A Monstrosity. Fletcher M. Noe. the taxidermist, yester day received a curious monstrosity, which V IV . .. uaa Deen iouna at a tiaugkter hoase near the city. The object is roand, about four teen iuches in diameter, and is covered with red hair one and a half inches lon. In the center of it is a perfect squirrel's head and neck with eves, mouth and ears in a vrv rerfect state. The specimen is rendered the mure curious dv us naving oeen connected to fometbicg by a naval cord. Mr. Noe has mad a careful dissection of the specimen, and finds that while it contains heart, lungs and ttomach, thre is no connection between tfcem and the head. It also contains no bones whatever, being composed entirely of fleth. The specimen will be given to the State Museum when properly prepared. Arranging- for the Carnival. A Train Wreck. The Bee Line train. No. 3. due here from Cleveland at 6 o'clock last night, ran into a freight train at New London, O., about 2:30 o'clock in the afternoon, and had a narrow escape from total demolition by fire. Jost how the accident occurred was not learned, but the collision seems to have been severe The engineer and fireman of the passenger train were both badly hurt. Their names could not be learned. The mail and baggage cars were considerably bruised and broken; both left the track and both took fire. By hard work they were dragged out, the combined forces of both trains laboring to that end, and after considerable difficulty the fire was put out. The passengers were uninjured, except so far as they were shaken up in the collision, but some of them narrowly escaped being scorched by the fire. Indianapolis Symphony Concert.
