STATE ASSOCIATIONS.
Arnual Meetings of the Swine and Sbort Horn Breeders Officers Elected by Botn As eoclatloce. The annual meeting of the Indiana Swine Breeders Association was hald yesterday afternoon in the rooms of the State Board of Agriculture. The President of the Association, It ich ard Jones, was absent, and-L. D. Thomas, of Rush County, was called to the Chair. V. . Jackson, of Knightatown, was elected Secretary pro tern. A committee of two was appointed to invite Governor Gray to address the association, after which the premium list reported at the meeting of the Fair managers in St. Louis was adopted. JL paper was then read by T. M. Reyeal on "The Relation of a Fat StocxShow to Swire Breeding." Following the discussion of this paper I. N. Barker read an address on "Hog Feeding for rxofit and Health." The feeding of pumpkins to hogs was than thoroughly debated, it being conceded by all that they were good feeding for a wine at all time?, and especially in the winter. A Committee ef Three on Programme was then .appointed and the meeting adjourned until evening. The night meeting was called ti order promptly at 7:30, and the above mentioned committee presented an excellent pro gramme for next year's convention, which was adopted. A paper was read by H. McCord on "The Character of the Chester White," after the discussion of which tae following new members were enrolled: J. H. Long, 8. W.Cook, I. F. Henshaw, T.S. Reveal, Eivin Barker and J. 8. Kercheval. The next thing in order was the election of officers and the balloting began, resulting as follows: President 1. L. Thomas, K'uhville. Vice I'resident-I. N. barker, Thorntowrj. Kecretary V. K. Jack6on, Knikhtstown. Treasurer A. 5?. Gllmore. Greensburi. Executive Committce-J. M. Dye, V. C. Williams and H. McCord. Before adjourning, the meeting discussed a motion that the State i'.cardof Agriculture be requested to appoint one man, instead of three, to award premiums. Toe majority of the members were decidedly in favor of the motion, and the impression prevailed that it should be referred to a committee, with instruction to report after they had examined into the matter thoroughly. THE SHOKT-nOBX KREEDEK9 The Short-Horn Breeders met again yesterday morning, and elected the following officers: President Robert Mitchell, Princeton. Vice President S. L. Lockridge, Greencastle. Secretary W. L. Quick, Colunibue. Treasurer K. 8. Frazel, Orange. Resolutions were then passed requesting the General Assembly to take steps to prevent the spread of that dread disease, pleuropneumonia. The meeting adjourned alter preparing a programme of exercises for the next annual convention. THE WOOL GROWERS'. The semi-annual meeting of the Indiana Wool Growers' Association will be held this afternoon, commencing at 1:00 o'clock. Subjects of importance to the wool growers' interest will be fully discussed. The Marion County Agricultural and Horticultural Society will meet in the rooms of the State Beard of Agriculture on Saturday afternoon. THE RAILWAYS. Rumors Concerning tbe Oregon and Transcontinental Company Other Items of the Rail. The tralper continues to drag out a weary existtntein the Crescent City. As the season advances the movement of live stick to E&stern points increases. Rates en this class of tratlic are being well maintained. The impression still prevails that Colonel William Dowd will he offered the Presidency cf the Monon at the next annual meeting of that comparjy. The Indianapolis and St. Louii Roid hau'ed into St. Lauis during the year ot lSl t,l !'.( O tons of coal, and in ISS:J, .lö .ö X; Vandaiia, !,2S2,h75. and in 1SS3, 8 !$31,5'. No steps have as yet been taken to reorganize the Indianapolis E ut-bound pool on the net rroncy bash. An effort will be made this tpring, however, to hve this done. "Mr. Carson i undoubtedly the best Manager the Monon ha ever had," said an Air Line engineer yesterday afternoon. He treats his subordinates like they should - treated, and they are best pleased whn djiDg his bidding. Passenger earnings for the last qiarter ot this month wilt be anjthirg but neavy, nor will the freight department make a very favorable fhowing for tbe present week. People dislike to travel during intensely cold weather when trains are delayed six and (even hours and sometimes abandoned. Track walkers are doing service day and tight on nearly all of the Indianapolis.!, and a close watch is kept for breaks iu tV tracks or weak plscei in bridges. It is said in railroad circle that Mr. Huntington was recently given a month's optioi on the purchase of the Owensburg and Nashville Railroad, and the belief is strongly entertained that he will buy tbe road. This i understood to involve its completion fro::i a dairville, its present terminus, to Nash vi lie, in almost an air line, following a CDurtetween Springfield and Cross PI tins directly to New Orleans. It is also stated thi, should the transfer be made it will not iu my way interfere with the building of ti Chesapeake and Nashville IiDad no if ia course of conttructiou. THE OREUAS TRaKCONTIXIXTAL. A f pecial to the Louisville Courier-Jour-calssys: Oregon Transcontinental usually itis the benefit of any rumors that are goin round Wail Street, and to-day dispatches came flying over from Boston asking If there was any truth in the rumor that another large loan of the company fell due on the 1st of February, and that the company had as yet been unable to protect it. President mith was well-nigh disgusted, and was free to fay that he did not think he couid devo'e nrcper attention to the affairs of tbe coml any if he took time to deny all tie miners ttat speculators cboo?e to put la circnlation. Tbe report is due to a miunW 'andin. The company has placed $7,500."00 of the new collateral trus; loan issued order the circular of November 11, 1SS4, and bas givrn an option on the remaining J.'.OCu.CtO, which expires on the 1st of Feb rnary. The old loan bas been taken up with the proceed of the loan, and even hough the option to take the remtiaing 12.500. GOO should not be exercised, the camacy bas no claims pressing fox immediate
ray men t. The managers profess to have very little doubt of the result of the suit in ftituted to prevent the issue of Oregon and California second mortgage bonds, so long as the interest Is unpaid upon the Sl,170,u0o of the came Issue which they hold in their treaiury. The Oregon Improvement Company shows an increase of earnings for December, bein the first gain in any month for nearly a year, and arrangements are now pending for the fun dint: of the floating debt and the payment to the Oregon Transcontinental of the company's notes, amounting to $518,000. Reception to Hon. D. W. Voorhees. The reception given by Hon. William H. English last evening at tbe English Hotel, in honor of Senator D. W. Voorhees, wis one of the sorety events of the season. Tue spacious recepticn rooms of the hotel wre crowded with the invited guests, notwithstanding the inclemency of the wf ather. Mr. English received the guests, assisted by Uis daughter, Mrs. Willooghby Walling, and with Hon. Charles Jew6tt, Speaker of tbe Hcuse cf Representatives, to perform the ceremony of introduction. The Wigwam Rink at each e?3;on yesterday had splendid houses, although there was no special feature of attraction. The usual programme was rendered, and each one present seemed to enjoy himself or herself with a rest that Indicate d they had attended solely for the purpose of skating. The orchestra at this place is a good one, and their efforts to render fine music are met with a full appreciation by tho large audiences present. To-morrow evening tbe third gTfcnd fancy dress carnival will t&kts place, and the indications are that it will saroA. if possible, any previous affair cf the. kind ever given in this city.
