Hcctlny8 or the Stockholders and Directors of the Indlfjiapolia Boiling Mill. Peculiar Financial Trnneactlona Tne Wages of Missouri Railroad Men Mr. Fink's Appointment Otner Items. F. F. GlT'ns bM been appointed agent ol the L. and K. at thh point. The project to build a line between Indianapolis and New Albany to compete with the J., M. and I. has been revived. General Freight Agent McLeod, of the C, U. and D., will appear before the Indianapolis Committee of the East-bound pool to answer to the charge of rate cutting. There is a growing demand for "empiieV cn the Tarioua Indianapolis roads as the grain movement increases, and it is a noticeable fact that very few carj are sidetracked at the present time. Had the railroads, in turning over a new leaf on January 1, firmly decided not to blot the clean white page with the record of the tpotter, the man whom no one respects and whom the railroad management themselves consider a necessary nuisance, they would have been eternally blessed by conductors and the public generally. W. H. Wharton, a veteran in the auditing department of the J., M. and I., who was transferred to the office of Superintendent McKenna when the former office wai moved to I'itUbnrg. has been summoned to that city by telegraph to assist in placing the JM ard I. branch of the consolidated office in smooth running order. A general order ha? been issued by Superintendent Vandergrift, of the T., C. and St. L., abandoning from dite all classes of trains between Frankfort and Toledo. All stations except ccnnty seats will also be closed. This throws out of employment thirty crews. The closing of the road is all owing to the fact that the bondholders failed io effect organization, There are rumors afloat to the effect that "William Dowd, formerly President of the Hannibal and St. Jce, will ba tendered the residency of the ilonon at tha next annual meetirg of the company. It is said that it was at his suggestion that Mr. J. 13. Carson was made General Manager of this roai. Mr. Dowd is considered one of the most able railroad men in the country, and is eminently fitted to be at the head cf this great railwy system, 8iid a prominent shipper yesterday: "I don't remember the time when freight ratss were to well maintained out of this city. I had a large consignment of grain for the ic aboard yesterday, and tried my best to tend it out at cut rates, but all was of no avail. None of the roads would give m a special rate, so I had to let it go at full tariff. Ibe shippers may bs breaking rates at Tfcria, Chicaeo and St. Louis, but they are ECt doing it at Indianapolis." A sppcial to theLouis7ii Courier-Journal frcm Knoxville, Tenn., says: News of Ilenry Fink's appointment as Receiver of the East Tennessee, Virginia and Georgia Kailroad was received throughout the territory covered by this system with a feeling of great pleasure. In this city, especially, where the East Tennessee controls all lines centering here, there was a large amount of rejoicing among business men and the public generally. Had the plan of a receivership failed, the entire system would have parsed into the hands of Seney'a party, who control the Richmond and Danville system, almost destroying competition betweea Eastern cities and extreem Southwestern points, also abutting off Knoxville'a wholesale trade with the coast States. As Fink is the present General Manager of the road, no probability of a cnaDge in officials is anticipated. The report ol the Commissio ner of Labor Statistics or Missouri shows that there are 19,480 railroad employes in that State, whose yearly earnings average as follows: General officers, $4,524; assistant and division superintendents, $2,400; civil engineers, $1,834; master mechanics, $3,000; masters of trass portation, road masters and bridge foremen, $1,440; clerks, $732; macninists, ?310; passenger conductors, $1,056; freight conductors, $ 1, 0S0; passen eer engineers, $1,030; firemen, SCC0; wipers. $432; baggagemen, $003; brakemen. $GS4; station agents, not telegraph operators, $084; station agents, also telegraph operators, $084; telegraph operators, not station agents, ?GC0; carpenters. $780; section foremen, $507; section men, $307; laborers, $343.20; switchmen and watchmen, $430; bridge tenders and pampers, $420, and other employes, $592. THE K0LLI5O MILL STOCKHOLDERS' MEETING, The annual meeting of the Indianapolis Holling Mill was held yesterday, and the old Board of Directors was elected. The report of Secretary Morgan was submitted showing that the property of the rolling mill had depreciated in valne dnring the past year, and thai the company had lost money, the only lource of income being from the foundry at the mill and from trackage. Income from these sources was about $1,500. The loss from shrinkage and other causes daring the year amounts to $28,000. The company's read, the Bedford and Bloomfield, has earned during the year $00,000. The road Is in excellent condition, & considerable amount having been expended in repairs during the year just past. Immediately after the adjournment of the stockholders a meeting of the directors was called and the following officers elected. Aquilla Jones, President; 8. W. Margan, Secretary and Superintendent; J. Thomas, Trcasner. Thedirectors then discussed the question of converting the rolling mill into a bar iron rcill;also, the conversion of the steel rail mill into a tteel bridge manufactory. It was estimated that it would take nearly $100,000 to make the changes, and the Secretary and Treasurer were appointed a committee to report upon the advisability of making the rhenges. The board also recommended President Jones for the position of Postrrtstsr at this point before it adjourned. JICCLIAR FINANCIAL TRANSACTION. There has been considerable surprise at the announcement that the Southern Development Company would purchase the coupons of the first mortgage bonds of the Houston and Tezaa Eailread. This is a road controlled entirely in the Huntington interest, and according to the last annual report for the year It 33, Its net earnings were more than CO per cent in excess of the amount necessary to meet the interest on all its Obligation, exclusive of the proceeds from the tales of land, of which the company had, in it original grant, 5.240.CCO acres. It is understood that the earnings of last j ear Lato cot iftllen behind thoee of ltS3,
and that the company has earned a surplm above its fixed charges. The interest on the consolidated and ths general mortgage bondj, amounting to 7,202.000, which fell due in October and November, was promptly paid, and naturally, the first mortgage bondholders were surprised at the ofler, only two months later, to parchase the coupons on the first mortgage bonds amounting in all to $0,072,000. The acquisition of these coupons by the Southern Development Company, which retains them uncanceled, necessarily makes this company, which is entirely controlcd by the Huntington party, a creditor upon the same footing as holders cf fist mortae bond?, but with interest much greater antagonistic to them. A number of bondholders who had presented their coupons and made the assignment in the form of a bill cf sale to tho Southern Development Company, returned the money and received their coupons back. No explanation was Riven, either by the bankers or the company, and a meeting of the bondholder, for consultation, will be held at an early day. C. I. Hudson fc Co. have been tLe leaders in the movement, and have already secured the support of a ldrge number of bondholders.
