? wC honor to inform you, that n Algerine squadron composed of three large corvettes, two bugs, a polacre, and a schooner, is ready for a cruise, and v ill soon sail. I have enquired ot the government of Algiers respecting the object of this armament and have represented, lin the most friendly manner, chat under present circumstances, our safety and interest required that Algerineships should not be permitted to board, or v'n any manner to interrupt the jj lerchant vessels of our nation. The Dey replied that these vessels were not destined against any Christian power, but that in every case, the most strict orders should be given that the vessels of h friends, the Americans, should suffer no injury Preparations are making t the sirnc time, by the land forces, from which it is presumed that these forces are dU rected against Tunis. Whatever may be the true object of these preparations, I think it will be useful to make known to this government that we arc prepared in every event. P. S. May 1 2. It is said that the Algerine squadron will gail to-morrow. WM. SHALER.

Crowds of these creatures ?re in and about the borough; and the only consolation of the inhabitants is, that they arc moving off to other lands, and will soon cease to trouble them forever.
