Frcn the Richncnd Entuircr: TO THE MARTIN THAT SINGS BY MY WINDOW. Sweetest minstrel hovering near me, Lingering round thy straw builr nest, Cease to shun me, cease to fear me Come and charm my woes to rest. Iow while darkness veils creation, And thy unfleg'd nestlings sleep, Near my window take thy station, Sing amf sooth me while I weep. Thine arc strains tint nature teaches, How they charm my list'ninr ear! livery thrill my bosom reaches, Oueils a sich, or dries a tear. Not the melting notes which languish On the lips where iua reigns, Calm my soul crcooth my anguish. Like thy simple, artk" strains. Fcr in souls, whose choral powers Chain the mind in mag'c spell, Oft dissimulation lower: Anger, pride, and malice dwell. 13ut th sorgo simple plcasuie?. Speaks no envious mortal nigh; While it hymns in artless measures I1IM, who hears the raven's cry. O, then come, an i free from danger, Imr thv notes in nun, hers wild; Sooth the sorrows of a stranger; Cheer atHiction's lonely child. ALGLA. nnr.Lrn of i hi; doc;.
