The Senite then again proceeded to consider the resolutions (introduced by Mr. Dickersnn) so to amend the Constitution as to provide an uniform mode of electing electors of Pres ident and Vice President of the United States, and Represents tives in Congress; and, on th the quetion to engross the resolution for a third reading, it was decided in the affirmative ayes 27, noes 13. the convenience and accommodation of the Legislature, and finding the appropriations not sufficient for the object, had diverted the funds to it which had been appropriated to other objects in the city, and had directed the commissioners of the public buildings to accept an adance of money which had been tendered by one ot the city banks, to make up the remaining deficiency, rel)ing on congress to make it good; that whit he had dune was in pursuance of what he deemed his duty in providing for the accommodation ot congress; and that however just the objections in the abstract, and to ordinary caes. the president was in this jutiliable, i.c. &c. The burglary wis discovered in the dunk cf the evening, but no traces have yet been discovered of the perpetrators of this daring villany. On Saturday the 5th instant, Mr. Nicholas llackcy had his store broken open, probably by thesamcgang. They entered through a back
window between 7 an.; bt.'iic. k iu the evening, and su. e. cl in carrying off several hundred valuable gold and silver watche r besides gold seals, keys, cc. The whole of Mr. Hackes los'j is estimated at eighteen' thousand-dollars.
