By persons who have descended the river direct from Camp Martin, wc learn the following pu dollars On thei2th July theprovisions gave out at Camp Martin, and the soldiers dispersed in small bodies under the command of different ollicers, to
subsist themselves as they could among the Indians and in the woods. This Camp was 370 miles up the Missouri, and had been occupied since Ia.st fall by a battalion of the Rifle regiment. Col. Johnson had the contract for supplying it with rations. On the 30th July, Colonel Chambers with the remainder of the Rifle regiment was at Fort Osage, 30 miles below the mouth of ttie Kinss, waiting the arrival of provisions. v On the 31st July the Western Engineer, was 30 miles below Fort Osage, amending. The same day the advance of the sixth Infantry in keel boats were ten miles above the mouth of Grand river. An accident had happened among these boats. In a rapid part of the river the ccrdelie, or towing rope, broke; the boat swung, anil drove down the current until striking a sawyer, overset, and went to the bottom. A soldier's wife and a child were drowned. Grand river enters the Missouri 240 mites above its junction with the Mississippi. August 1. The foremost of the steam boats, the Expedition, was 8 miles above Franklin (Boon's Lick) lying to and repairing some of her machinery. The progress of this boat up the Missouri had been at the rate of 8 miles a day ! August 3. The steam boat jfejferssn was 8 miles above the mouth of the Great Osage. The Great Osa re etuers the

It is unvr ret 'ah; that ro much of the expedition depends upon the progress of these feeh!e boats, will not see ihc Council Enrfi this yen'. That part however, which in ir go forward in keel- and barges may easi'y arrive there Let no one attribute to the difficulties of the river the wretched progress which Col. Johnson's boats have made in a-cending it. Capt. Nelson's vovaiie to B iota's Lick in the bidtpendetice is a proof of the case and safety with which it may be navigated in a boat properly built, of competent power, and skilfully conducted. St Louis Enquirer. Extract cf a letter from an officer cf the Republican army in the Ero vir.ce cf Texas, to Cel. R, Robinson cf this county. Natcihtochls, July 12. It appears to me nothing can put a stop to the expedition, the country through which 1 passed on my way to this place, is all in an uproar, preparing to move. There are a great many troops over the Sabine, and many more going daily. "A letter has been received hereto-day, from Dr; Robinson, in Philadelphia, informing that he has sent on 500 from that city and the calculation is, that a great many will leave Baltimore. Several regiments are raising in Kentucky, and several boats arc ascending the Red river, with troops. Large appropriation
