FROM THE RICHMOND ENQ. The sleep that knows no waking The fatal hour approaches near, Another is the earth forsaking, To sleep, that sleep upon the bier Which knows no waking. The beaming of his closing eye Its last farewell of all is taking, Wrapt in that listless sleep to lie Which knows no waking. And freed from toil his silent bed With those who lie beneath its making, To share that slumber with the dead Which knows no waking. In vain around the couch we weep When anguish racks the bosom aching, All flesh must moulder in the sleep Which knows no waking. From death new life shall spring ---the gloom That sepulchres our being, breaking In bliss shall sorrow find a tomb, And know no waking. S -----, of the South. Remarkable instances of the mildness of the Season. Several leaves in an old maid's prayer book have just sprouted out anew. A new crop of dandies has just budded, which it is feared the frost will entirely kill. A tailor has advertised two acres of winter cabbage. JACOB G.
