From the hidlvia Gciz'tte. We are gratified to hud from the following extract of a letter from the ilon. W. Hendricks our Representative, which was written since his return to Madison, his place of residence, that he has not been inattentive to thc pecuniary distresses of the citizens of this state; and that we lay enjoy thc same privileges granted to others. Madison April 3, 1819. DEAR SIR, I am authorised to state that the same propositions which have been accepted by tne t anners ana tuecuanics Ban: of Cincinnati relative to the Depcsits of public monies and the reception of the paper of the solvent banks of thc country in the land oillces, will by the Secretary of the Treasury be made to the Bank of Vinccnnes ; these propositions and this arangctnent having been p nidi shed, J. need not de. tail them in a letter. Th'u measure is important to the Western Country, and if the propositions arc acceded to on lhe part ot the B hik. ot v incen lies thc citizens ot Indiana will he-ve the same fa ilkies on the subject of land payments, whieh are afforded to the eop'e of the western parts of Ohio. this arrangement on the part of the Treasury depart ment was no doubt deferred to a late period on account of the pendency of the great Bank question bdore the Mouse, as it was impojoibic previous to the decision of that question, to know true measure best calculated for thc relief of the western country, a relief to which the Secretary of that Department has at all times been inclined. Yours Sir, very respectfully, William Hchdhicks. In the argument of the question upon the right of the states to tax the branches of the bank of the United States, Mr- Hophmson, on taking up ; Federalist" to read some passages from papers written by General Hamilton, paid this deserved tribute to his memory : " It is a proud tnumpiV said he, " to the ge n,us' .lhs famc aiuitIle fnen of this great man, that now, when the jealousies and resentments which always persecute living superiority, are buried with him in his grave, his public virtue is the theme of universal praise, his transcendant talents, of universal acknow. ledcrment : and his official and iuiuii-ut , v..w. wv political writings tfie authoritativc commentaries upon the charter of our liberties.
