Sir Alexander Cnctiton, physician to the emperor of Russia, (says a London paper) has made some experiments on the vapor in boiling tar in the case ot pulmonary consumption ; the favorable result of these experiments has been published i3i Edinburgh. Those of our rcadevs who have friends laboring under the complaint, and wish to make trial of this remedy, should observe the following precautions ; with each lb. or niutdikin of tar, mix half an ounce of the salt of tartar; care must be taken that the tar be not boiled in .a cracked vessel, and, that it .be only evaporated, not burnt. After adopting these precautions, the patient may inhale the vapour for several hours every day. At lirst it. frequently occasions head ache.

Charged before the Mayor of this city, with passing a number of counterfeit notes. .','.. , The public are aware that this kind of traflick is carried on to a great and alarming extent, but we believe the course of condnct that is now adopted by our judges, will have a great tendency to check the growing evil in and about this city. .It is with sincere pleasurethat we state the very laudible and praise worthy jrtmduct of judge Armstrong, in the case of the above named defendant. The defendant was brought before him yesterday for a hearing, upon a writ of Habeas Corpus. The judge very ably expatiated upon the enormity of the offence with which the defendent stood charged, and concluded by telling him that such vyas the extent of the business in which he appeared to have been engaged, that he ielt bound in conscience to demand such bail of him as would ensure his being forth coming at the time of his trial. lie then ordered him to enter into a recognizance of ten thousand dollars himself, and to give good security in the same sum for his appearance at tte next mayor's court, to answer, &c. The security not being given, he was remanded to prison.
