An arrival at N. York brings the news that Mr. Bourne, consul of the U. States at Amsterdam, died suddenly on the 26th of April The British vessel Angelica, was lately foundered while on her passage from the Cape of Good Hope to the Isle of France, and all on board perished. John James Armstrong esq- late consul at Tencriffe, his Lady, 7 children, 2 nephews and servants were part of those who perished. On the suspension of the Habeas Corpus act, nine British officers broke their swords, and embarked for america. One of them arrived here, has told us the fact. England has been styled by a French writer, "The Jailor Nation." The Irish, some hundred years ago, styled them by the title of the 'Assassins.' Such reproaches more properly belong to the government than the people of England. Their cruel and cowardly treatment of Napoleon, will brand them with everlasting infamy. Eastern paper.

Remedy for difficulty of Hearing,
Dr. D. Green, TAKES the liberty of informing the people, that he has discov ered a very easy mflde of assisting those .who are hard of hearing. Knowing, that providence has permitted a remedy to grow for every disease,; he has made it his study, this number of years past to try to find out this remedy. At length he flatters himself of being successful, more so, than any other man yet. The remedy generally gives help, except to very old "people,, who begin to lose their eye sight, about the time that the Rearing becomes weakened. To all others, it as yet, has seldom failed, of restoring that great blessing of hearing. The Medicine, with directions can be sent to the patient by post or otherwise to any place, however distant. At the same time, it may be somewhat satisfactory to those distressed to know that they may pnrsuc their their business, & to eat and drink what tastes best.' The preparing, transmission, postage, &c. of the remedy, will come to obout five dollars. This inclosed in a letter, wiil cover all expense to the patient. One great object is to diffuse its benelits as far as possible; there fore, all printers who will give the above -an occasional insertion shall receive its . advantages for themselves, or relatives, in thus assisting to place it within the reach of the distressed.
