From the new York Gazette, May 22. PROPHECY. There is now in Boston a Hen egg found in a farm house in Bordeaux on which which is this inscription: "This gives notice that Napoleon Bonaparte will re-ascend the throne of France, Nov. 15, 1818." The Canandaigua Repository of Tuesday speaks of the fineness of the season, and remarks, that the fields of wheat in that quarter look well. New Orleans, May 3. The steam boat Vesuvius, whose nearly total destruction by fire on the 13th of July 1816, was severely felt by the merchants in Natchez trade, got under weigh on Thursday last for the first time since that disaster; and we are happy to add, appears to work with great advantage and move with rapidity against the current. From the Boston Patriot,May 17. It gives us great pleasure to be able to announce the safe arrival in this town, on board the brig Gipsey of the patiiot Aritonio Gon Zalvo De Cruz, ambassador from the Provisional government of Pernumbuco, one of the principal cities & provinces of Brazils in South America, to the government of the U States. This distinguished gentleman was, with 4 other prominent patriots of Pernambuco, proscribed by the royal governor. After the royal governor had been obliged so retire with his partizans into the fort, he issued a proclamation offering the grade of captain to any soldier, and grades in proportion to men in higher rank, to whoever should deliver up to him dead or alive, the five gentlemen named in the proclamation. In less than 24 hours however, the governor was himself obliged to capitulate, and we have already been apprised of the liberal and magnanimous manner in which he was treated. The patriots exulting in their glorious cause, disdained to retaliate, and notwithstanding his barbarous proclamation, he was permitted to embark with his family, his partizans, and property for Rio Janeiro. , The ambassador, his secretary and suite, confirm all the favorable accounts heretofore received of the wisdom, humanity, moderation and unanimity, which have marked the progress of the revolution at Pernambuco, and given
it a character of brilliancy far su-" perior to any which has yet taken place in South America. The provisional government
consists of a Council Board, and
an Executive of five members, taken from the profession of agriculture, commerce, the military, the clergy, and mechanics. This state of things will continue until a constitution is framed. The clergy are represented as being very patriotic, singing te deum, & animating the people, as our clergy did 1775, to resist tyranny & establish liberty and independence. ' The Pernambuco flag when hoisted, was represented to have had an iris in the centre, surmounted by a star, indicative of the state of Pernambuco; other stars to be added as other provin. cesjoin the patriot cause. Another province having already joined, two stars now appear upon it in full brilliancy. It is expected they will multiply rapidly. Under this Iris a Sun, figuratively indicating the citizens ofPcarnbuco to be children of the S & below is a. Cross, to design-it e the primitive name of the Brazils when first discovered, being that of Santa Crux, Holy Cross. The whole appears to be a very ingenious and beautiful design. We further learn, that before the patriotic ambassador lefi Pernambuco, all titles of nobility had been abolished. He is therefore not willing, nor can he consent. to assume the title "Exceiiency." Patriot and compatriot are the only titles known at present. The provisional government hare determined to organize and ir a - tain a regular army, of 15,0"'; men, which in the provi. 2 of Pernambuco alone v be seconded by a well regulatti militia of 40,000. The pay and rations are the most liberal that have ever before been known in
any country. Thus the New World is destined by allbounteous Providence, as an asylum for the perecuted of all nations, and residence of the
and independent men. Already is the standard of liberty waiving triumphantly in Mexico, Veiuzula, Brazil, the Province of Buenos Ayres, Paraguay, Chili, ai d Peru cannot resist the example or so glorious a combination. May despots of every description be speedily deprived of rhe power to oppress, and may Liberty extend her genial sway to the remotest corners of the earth .'
