The socitty kriowa by the name of Free-masons, is so called, became they who first established it understood building & Masonry ; or perhaps the first principles of it were laid down by masons. But whatever may hare been their origi.a, ihey are now very numerous, and there is t scarcely any country where there are not Fteemasons. They trace their origin from the building of Solomon's Temple. -And this of all the circumstances which relate to their society, is the only one which they are permitted to communicate. Notwithstanding the cloud which envelopes the proceedings of this ( society, it appears they attend to manners ; and their secret is, by acts of disinterestedness,
generosity, and kindness to fas-, ten those bonds which ought to unite mankind. If these are the principles of free-masonary, the place wherein they mest should be considered as the temple of friendship at the gate of which is the god of silence, r. tsf L. Anec, '
