THE SOUH ECLIPSE.
The Prison. —Mr, Costigan, the contractor, has commenced vigorous operations upon tlie new Prison, and is rapidly systemntizingmatters so as to accomplish his labor rapidly with the least possible expense. A rail track will run near the prison walls which will facilitate the delivery of stone (some of which we observed upon the ground) and other material most advantageously. Another track will run parallel with the brick yard for the delivery of clay. The brick-yard will bo 200 by 400 feet, on which three kilns of 300,000 brick each can be burned. Every economy to prevent 1 useless and over handling: of heavy materials is being devised. — A'beautiful steam engine :of seventy hofao power, man ufactored at Cincinnati, has been put up, and a commodious tool l.iou sc erected in connection. A large temporary building for dining the convicts. has been- constructed, and guard houses—some of them built in the tree tops, and others judiciously placedI in sightly and commanding [positions, give evidence that I security as well as comfort lias (been consulted. A largo I three story workshop wil 1 bo [erected as speedily as possible. | When done, it will be used I for a Prison house, and Blair’s 1 building, now lised for a Prison, will be vacated. We ate (informed by the contractor I that his arrangements are |such that he will he able to day the stone as fast as it can ( be delivered upon the ground, | Wc are also told by Commissioner Blake that the Prison walls will bo finished to the bight of ten feet by the 1st of January— M ichiyan City \Enierprisc.
To day, July, 18th, there will be a total eclips of the san visible In his city from 6:22 to 8:20 A. M.— The astronomers are even thus early: on the alert, and men in Europe have finished their preparations for the great event. The eclipse will behest observed in Spain. Hence the chiefs of the "celestial science” are congregating there in large numbers. | Of all the fotal cclipecs of ihesunj within the passing century, this, we believe, can ' be most conveniently observed—portions of North America, Spain and Egypt affording fine vierfs of the occdrrence-Hhat is, the son will be so placed at tbs lime as to give an advantage to investigators in those regions. The eclipse which is to occur next year, on the 31st of December,'can only be well seen from the middle of the Atlantic Ocean or from the Sahara Desert, or fsom the centre of the Mediterranean ; that next to come off, in the December of 1780, can only be welt witnessed from' tho Azores, or. Turkey; that to occur seven years subsequently can bo best* observed from awkward spots in Russia and Central Asia, and tbe last ono of 'the century, on August 9, 1896, can only be investigated from ( Greenland, Lapland and Siberia. On the first year of the next century, there will, however, be another eclipse, which may be observed with precisely the same advantages of place and circumstances as are afforded by this. But it-is rather too long for the present generation to wait for that, and wo therefore advise the curious who are in the habit of going to bed late, to remember tbe hour if they desire; to witness the pbenomenen.

The Opposition County Ticket is veil received by the people generally, and if the proper organization and'- efforts are made, the whole ticket will be triumphohtly elected. As yet, there: is no opposing ticket in the field, bnt soon will be, if we are correctly informed of the movements of the leaders; but the voters of the county we feet confident arc satisfied with the excellent manner in which the business of the county has been managed for the put six years, and do not intend to put the old dynasty that reigned eight and tiyi years ago again into power.
