Several years ago a young man in Es>« county left bis home to en* counter the.dangers of a whaling voyage. Tbs ship in which be tm* barked after a quick passage reached the Pacific Obean in safety, but soon after her arrival a terrific storm arose, which drove the vessel uu the wild shore of the Fejee Islands. The crew retched tbe shore in safety to meet a still more dreaded fate than that from which they had ~cs* caped. They were soon surrounded by the savages, who took from them all they bad save! from tbe wreck, and seemed delighted with their misfortune. The certainty of tbs awful doom lnat awaited them soon forced itself upon their minds. They were to become food to appease tbe hunger of this cannibal race, among whom they bad been thrown by the ocean wave. One by one F. saw his companions disappear, until he alone remained. His mind was tilled with unutterable anguish for ho knew that bis turn must soon come.
