Although we have uo faith in the moral or political honesty of Hale, yet, so far as we know, Mrs. Dale is a good woman, and respectably connected in her native State and village: Tnr. Case of Hale. —We understand' that Mr, P. H. Hale, clerk in the Trcasery Department, and whose sadden disappearance from this city (caused, it is alleged, by the committal of a fraud upon the Treasury) we noMced a few days since, was at tbs St. Nicholas, New York, on Tuesday. On the same day be left there in company with his wife, as was supposed, for this city; but as she baa arrived here, and nothing has been seen of him, it is now thought probable he has left for other parts. His wife knew nothing of the occurrence until her a nival here, when, otvreceiving the info t mat ion, she became almost frantic with grief. He bad told her while away that, not having obtained a leave of absence, he was fearful he would be dismissed if she did not return and intercede for him with some well grounded excuse for hits thus absenting himself; and it was with this intention that she returned thus early to Washington.— She is unable to account for his ac lion.

1H—THE CHEAT SUPPER.
Although we hai) already heard two sermons preached, shortly after-dusk we fell m with the moving multitude and soon found ourself within the sacred walls of the Pike street Baptist Church —thinking, that although we bad attend' ed church quite enough for one day, yet it was.well fur even an Editor lo be caught:in good company as often as possible. Rev.' E.' S. Riucr is the Pastor of (Ms Church, and is also « young man. of libcraieducation, and is well liked by his congregation, which, as a general thing, is larger than the Presbyterian, and less than the Methodist, At present, our Baptist friends have the advantage of the other churches, as they have a neat and appropriate church building; however, when the others get their new buildings completed, the Baptists will Le a little "behind the times;" but as the Society is perhaps as wealthy as anym the place, they can easily remedy Ibis, if they see proper so to do. Elder A. Connelly, (he speaker on this occasion, spoke upon the following portion of Scripture: u For all tWnp are now touIj."—Luke sir-. IT. The aim of the speaker was to call the unconverted to partake of that supper, (be religion of Jesus Christ, and as a protracted meeting was going on there, his purpose was to affect the hearts of those who os "were stray sheep front the house of Israel," and induce them to put on the wedding garment, and partake of the supper, which was abundant, and the table was never crowded; no matter how many sal down, the word was, "still there is room," and his appeal was not without success, as the sequel proved. — Thus endeth our report of sermons preached in Vevaylast Sabbath. Should inese tough and imperfect sketches prove interesting to our readers, we may continue them, as time and opportunity may permit
