The* truth is/ohl pap Drake was an nltra Republican in Ohio, and was .one of the' editors of the Sciola Valley Republican; and after ho came to Yeyay, he openly avowed himself an opponent of the Democracy, and stated that ho would vote against them, if he had a vote. If we are to judge of the Order by its representatives, it is worthy of the exalted position it cccoples in the pbnlicmin'd, and mnst continue to prosper in the future as it has done in the past.

AN INDIANA MAIL ROBBER AND BURGLAR CAPTURED IN MEMPHIS.— A fellow named Wm. H. Linn, <alias> Wm. H. Hibbard, was arrested in Memphis, on Wednesday, on charge of robbing a jewelry store in Brookville, Ind. The burglary was perpetrated several months ago, and Linn susceeded [sic] in effecting his escape.— The police in Memphis were telegraphed a description of his person, and requested to look out for him, as he was supposed to be lurking in that vicinity. On Tuesday night Officer Batson, of Indiana, arrived in that city, and at once recognized him as the burglar, and accordingly Linn was arrested and lodged in jail. Batson had a requisition from Gov. Willard, and Linn will be immediately taken to Indiana for trial.—Though young in years, this man is old in crime, and daring his brief career of villainy has robbed the mail in Indiana four different times, always managing to escape justice. ~~~~~~~

ARRESTED.—A young man named F. A. Laken, was arrested in this city on Wednesday last for uttering counterfeit money. From the evidence elicited at the examination it appears that he went into the store of John Zeiller & Co., purchased two overcoats at $10 each, and threw on the counter $35 to pay for the same. An soon as Mr. Dalmbert took hold of the bills he saw that three of them —thirty dollars—were counterfeit. He immediately sent for the marshal and had the fellow arrested. He was bound over in the sum of $500 for his appearance at the February term of the Circuit Court, andin default of bail he was sent to the “jug.”— <Rising Suu [sic] Visitor>. ~~~~~~~

——>The steamship Great Eastern has made another trial trip. She had a rough sea. She rolled and dipped with perfect ease, and seemed to swing herself with a sidelong, gentle motion over every wave, dropping deeply and easily beyond them with regular, slow rolls, often deep enough, to leave one paddle turning high and dry. This motion is attributed to her very light immersion; and having no upper weights to counterbalance the coals below. The whole roll 'was only eight degrees each way. The greatest speed was close on 18 miles an hour. The run was far more satisfactory than either of the previous ones. ~~~~~~~~
