(£r The life of the farmer, ‘rightly understood, is the most -dignified andJndopendent ol all other pursuits in our country* The distinction between him end ell other persons is, that he is directly dependent (or hia property endsuccess on the favor end smile of Providence, while ell others aro dependent on the favor and patronage of man; the farmer, therefore, has ,a mors constant and recarring appeal 1 made to him,..to lean on the atm of Him who rules and controls ell things, than others. Recar for a moment to tbo beginning of this high vocation. When pod created this great world, all' the things that are ijrit and upon it, and pronounced thcW good, llo created: man and woman, male and female, gave'to them power over all t lhe earth. Ho hade them to multiply and replenish the earth and. to subdue it. IIo created man 'upright, and while he was required to dress the garden-in'which he was placed, jet the earth spontaneously produced every fruit which was necessary for his comfortable and happy existence. Thus Adam, onr great ancestor, in hts days of Jpurity and innocence, was a gardeiicr. In that condition there was no death, and consequently, no diseases and no sorrows.

The steamer Kafo French is now running as a regular packet between Louisville and Henderson, and is doing a fine business. { The Editor of the Evansville £njuicer refers to her in the following complimentary terras; We had tho pleasure of taking a a trip to Lobiavalla last week on this model packet, and wo found her oho of the most comfortable vessels it has ever been opr lot to travel on. There aro many clever officers on tho Ohio and Mississippi steamboats, but we have never found any more kind, attentive or soUcitons for the comfort and convenience of their than Capt. C affray, and bis excellent clerks, Capt, S. Q. Jlowe. and W. Caffrey, Jr. Everything .which men could do to promote the pleasure and 'convenience of those committed to their' charge was, done by these obliging officers. 1 2 he stewards and servants were coni Icons and polite. In fact, 7 take her all in all. tbo Kate French is worthy of tho patronnge of the public, and we hope to see her sustained by tho hosipcss men of Evansville. . ■ She brought up a large number of people from Southern Indiana to the recent State Fair, and abont one Hundred of them published a Card ip the.Louisville papers, very .cpmr plimeatary lo the French and her officers. :V AVa ara pleased to chronicle tho success of a Swiizciland 'Co. boat.
