HUrORIANT METALLIC DISCOVERT

Odo of the startling discoveries, of the age has just been made, and its effect upon the commercial affairs of the world cannot bo foretold. -Wo allude to the late discovery in the process of making or smelling of a new* metal called the Byrne ore or •Uyrno metal, which has been named after the inventor. This new metal is of hudAi nature that either an imitation ol gold or silver can he prodtivcJ which would defy detection by more than nine tenths of the dealers in wares manufactured of pore gold and silver. The most astonishing p3ii f ol the discovery .is that ■tj its being so valuable as to bo used in the manufacture of every article ,i.i which gold 'or silver can bo nsed. This motnl is being used now in the iiutiofacliirc of watch-case?, rings, rnmeiU, forks, spoons, heads for *ahe% tooth-picks, pens,, table sets, .■bandoliers and in (act, everything i ti which .gold‘ and. silver has been used heretofore; and when it is unde Mood that this metal was sold in •be mauu fact tried state for £2,00 an ounce, the immense revolution which i is destined to protn e in the commercial world can bo partially conceived. Iis weight and general appearance is p oeisely like that of gold and silver; thus making it without doubt the.equal of those metals in the manufactnre of everythidg else bat money, which use is made certain, because it will, not change its appearance by use any more than gold or silver will, and not so much when alloy to.any grept extent is used. Wcsay that this isastarllingdis-, cpvcry. Wo call it a startling discovery because .it will, in a great measure, dispense with the nse of gold and silver &i the manufacture of jewelry aud other 'articles in which these precious metals have been heretofore used, in consequence of which the supply of these metals will .bo greatly augmented, .iW mnlt which will he to increase their ose in coinage and a corresponding increase m tho volume of money in the channels of trade, which must advance the prices of all kinds of merchandise in like ratio.

When wo can boy a sarvico of plate made of a metal which represents gold in every particular bat its value lor 62 an ounce, while wrought goitl is worth IS dollars an ounce, it is easy to perceive that a. great revolution is about to take place in this branch of trade.. In the silver ware the difference of price is not so great. A set of silver spoons .which costs now SC, can he bonght, mftde of this metal, and which will represent the silver in every particular bat their valve, for 62 the set. For our part we must says that this is the most astounding developement .that the world ever known es regards ils commercial arrangements. It surpasses the railroad and telegraph invention beyond a doubt, and may end in revolutionizing . oar' whole system of money exchanges. ; Aw Tork 'Xaa.

The bark Maria arrived st this port last evening, from a three years’ crpiso in the Indian Ocean. - She was built at the town of Pembroke, noty called Hanson, for a privateer during the Revolutionary war. - She was bought by Win.' Reich, a merchant of Nantucket, afterwards of this city in.tho year 1763, and, in tbs same year-she made a voyage to London, with a cargo of oil. Her register is dated 'A. I). 17S2, and she is consequently in her 77lh year. She claitns to bo the first ship that displayed lbs U. S. flag in a British port after, the Revolutionary war, which flap is in existence, though in shreds. Her modeLis of.old Reach construction, tumbling' home, or ronndiug very much in her top sides, and she is consequently very narrow on tbo'deck, in proportion to her size—202 ions. It is said that there stands to her credit over [8200,000; and from the earliest history of this ship she has never been any expense by loss to underwriters except once, and that was to a very small amount. —Xeu Bedford Standard.
