At this'moment his wife entered the room, and asked him the cause of this uroccdurc. lie replied that ho was “only getting some trash nut of his boot/’ After which she turned and went out. ‘ Scarcely had she qnilte.) the room, however, when a loud report,of n gun and a,heavy fall on the floor startled the whole family, and the horror-stricken wife rushed into the room, which -she found filled with smoke and the scent of gnn powder, and in the middle of the floor lay her husband upon bis face, struggling in the lastbgbnies of death! lie extended his arms, mado'oho or two faint struggles and all was over. ■*.; It appeared that he had taken a doublebarreled shot-gnn and placing the muzzle against his breast; with the other end on the floor ami pointing it in the direction of hi> heart, contrived to fire it with his toe—-for which purpose he had removed the covering of his foot.
