. and given each a fair trial, I think | I can form a pretty correct opinion of - their respective merits-. — At the time of the commonce--ment of the *‘hen fever,” I had a ' beautiful lot of Dominique fowls, 'which I was foolish enough td part with, having first obtained sx trio of famous Slmnghaes, which! I then thought were very fine fowls; but alter keeping them a year or two, my good opinion of them began to vanish. I think the chickens are too long in coming to maturity; they require n great amount of food, and, their fleshis not of the finest quality. ; I next purchased two pairs of pure blooded Brahmas; winch 1 ! soon became.satisfied were altogether superior to the Shanghaes. They are more compact in form, have shorter eggs, lay larger eggs, do not require quite so much food, and are more beautiful. These remarks apply to the pure blooded Brahmas. - 1 have seen fowls that were called Brahmas, that-1 won id hard! y take as p, gift. B lit notwithstanding all I have said in favor of the Brahmas, I do not consider them, as profitable as some of oiir best breeds. For the purposes for which fowls are generally kept, I decidedly prefer the genuine Dominique breed, to any other' that I have ever seen.— •They are very hardy fowls, easy keepers, first rate layers, good sitters aVd mothers, and the chickens are, very easily raised and come to maturity early,- I have a verynicc lotuf this variety now, which by Careful breeding I have improved,' They are of medium size •well formed and are very peaceable. Last summer they had freej access to my garden and dauiage whatever. I kept aii account with my fowls last year. I had twelve hens at the time they, commenced laying in February;, in May I disposed of two of them and afterwards lost another, so I think theaverage, number for the year would be about ten or eleven. The account is as follows: —

The Agricultural Fair,
The approaching Fair of the Switzerland and Ohio Agricultural Society', bids fair to eclipse anything of the kind ever before held in the comity. Nearly all the thrifty fanners in this county are getting something ready for 'exhibition.; and notwithstanding the bad season, we anticipate a greater number and variety of articles on exhibition than at any of the previous Fairs. The stock department especially will ho attractive; -the number of horses in training is imprecedentiy large, and fine cattle and lugs will be abundant. . . The farmers of this county me , burning their attention to the .subject of stock raising, and ere long old Switzerland will compare favorably with any county in the State, in this line.
