■ A very rapid upwaid movement has been experienced iu our market for (lour and wheat, during the week, leading to the establishment of a very material advance in prices, but the advancing tendency received a serious cheek yesterday, and there were indications (it close of a rebound. Indeed wheat fell off ’2®3e per bushel, from Monday’s figures, and flour was not so valuable hy 25c per bbl. Holders, ho we vs r,- con tinned to manifest great confidence, ami the depression was more marked on the side ol buyers than on that of sellers, Tim most sudden advance of the week was caused by advices from Now York, on Saturday, whore the improvement Menu.to have been caused 1-y-a*reported break in the Erie canal. Me as ns. Cibr ikd Hcohes.—These gentlemen addressed a largo collection of the people of Brown county at tho Court House in Nashville, on Monday, the 19th of July. , Judge H. opened the discussion, and spoke for one and a half hours to about two hundred persons. He made olny a few thrusts at Mr. Carr,.with the evident intention to raise a laugh, and divert the minds of his audience from the subject of his speech. But this did not seem to be entirely satisfactory to the faithful; The burthen of his speech was, that lie was the regularly nominated candidate of the Democratic parly. 1 Ad mitred that he was, and'si ill is in favor of Lecompton, but that the question is'how and foiever settled. And proved clearly that all anti-Lecoinplon Democrats ought tovoto for him, 16 carry out their principles in preference to any antbLecomplon ; Democrat, and especially Mr. Carr, And ; fully satisfied himself and brother office holders and seekers of that .fact-. That | the English conference Bill is the policy! of the Administration and test olDemoc*! racy. That whosoever will not awear by that let him ho accursed.
The Caxvas?.—We continue to receive the most encouraging hew? from all parts of the. district. : Every day shows that the race for Congress, between Messrs. Hughes and Dmrti, will nm be materially affect'd by the bolter/G. W. Carr.
All those who arc opposed to forcing slavery upon the penpla of Kansas, ot the. course of the present reckless and extravagant State and National Administrations, are invited to attend and participate in the Convention.
Democrats, who for a time talked of supporting Carr, arc at length wide awake to the fact, that in so Aoihg they would give nid and cdmfoil to the Republicau candidate. . ■ : . ■ Mr. Carr’s ft lends fmnkly admit that there is no possible chance for his election. Nothing U mOro’sure than that Hughes will be elected by a very decided, majority.— Vernon Anti-Bvlter. :
