The Sorghum.
Tiio Sorghum, or Chinese sugar cane, has now had its first experiment in Indiana, A more udprop)lions season for it has not occurred among us lor tunny years, ao that the results of whatever is done with it this year, we think, tuny he safely relied upon as being pretty sure in coming seasons. What arc some of these re.-tilts? and what is some of the expei ience gained? Is has been found that it should be planted as early as it con ic put in—that it requires a long time after coming tip to get well rooted which it does thoroughly,, while apparently standing slilMniegard to upper growth.That it requires for its most perfect growth a warm rich; sandy loam. the sweetness of the sap increases as its maturity approaches, cud* taiaing probably the greatest amount of saccharine matter while in blossom, and' up to tbo time when tbo seed gets into the dough state. That it then yields one gallon of syrup to from six to ten gAllons of sap. That it docs not grain easily into sugar, if at all. That it will-make pretty good fodder both in a green end dry state, but the coat of. its stalk being harder than 1 Indian corn, is not so good for that purpose as the corn is. - This, wo believe, ta a summary of the fasts obtained by one seasons trial of this now crop in Indiana. At least,.it iV what baa come to oar 'knowledge in regard to it, .It would bo strange; indeed, it ’ all it.-, me r *18 and demerits should be sm-cnamed during so shorfon oequaintnnee,; - The great leading ami ino.-t impoilant fact in reggrd to i; is, 'that it will yield a good supply of syrup herd in. Indiana.— The.-"profit or loss. in-.the raiding and manufacture mnet depend on nml vary with the price of the Southern mohiMies uml sugar. ' ’* \

Good Roads;
No couutry can be thoionghly prospermis without good roads. Wliat a change has been wrought in our country since tbo introduction of turnpikes and railtoads. There- are many parts-of the country where the people do not reap the benefit directly of either of these, mid tiic labor of opening roads and keeping them In repair rests with the people. Oitr agricultural societies generally Imvtr pfleied liberal premiums tipon 'almost • every branch of industry, llto beneficial eflects of which arc seen and felt everywhere. But the most sensible proposition that wc hare seen fcom any association, is from the DeKalb Co...Indiana,' Agricultural Society in which it,offers premiums for the 1st, 2nd and 3rd best worked road districts. This is worthy of imitation all over the country. Every agricultural society may oiler, laige premiums for the best worked roads audit will he found that no investment will 1 return a lithe of the general benefits compared with tins.

Toe Vintage of Missoum.—Fiprii the German colony of Hermann, in Missouri, we learn that the vintage has been in progress for several weeks, and is almost ended. They yield is unprecedentedly targe —the vintners are reaping a larger .crop than they had . provided for, and in consequence there is a scarcity of barrels and cellar-room. The St. Louis Wesilkhe Post says .the grapes .are unusually large and juicy, and if.ordinary care is'taken in the vintage, the yield of trine will be belter aa well as larger than.ever before, as the must contains a greater percentage of sugar than has been the case in any year since 1848. The wine this year grown in Hermann, and vicinity- will amount to about .100,000 gallons.— Mo. Democrat.

Dr. RobacU'j Snccrjm.
