OiT The people .of Madison. Indiana, are agitating the, question of laying a tliird raii oa tbe railroad from tliat place t'i Nonb Vernon, on tho 0..& M* Railroad, so'as to adapt it to tho carsof, (be latter road. The Courier if this were done,-Madison woold bo tho end ef the shortest route between the Ohio and Mississippi rivers on ; the broad gauge, road from St.'Lonis, she would again become a commercial .depot, her wharves and streets would .he thronged with merchandise and merchants as of yore, *ml_ above all, (he opening of: the most fertile central Illinois would . giro an ..additional stimulant to small manufactures.; Our millers would go to Illinois for wheaf, the distillers nil along the Ohio river for corn—our pork packers for hogs. ? In a word, thei advantages to.Madisonj; once more a commercial depot, are so many that wo hardly know how to commence to number them. ; .V,-

f£T The statement we gave last week iu regard to the sinking of barge Jenny L\nd t which was in low of tho bwilzerland, was somewhat erroneous. It seems that the bargo was not sunk at New Orleans, but at Greenville, about live bundled miles above that place. As near as wo can learn the circumstances wcfclhiflj: .Tho bargo was taken in low by tho Switzerland, but as fhe was rounding loo near Omcnvillo, the barge was found to bo in a sinking condition and abandoned; and finally, the second mate, Oliver Noble, boarded the sinking barge and succeeded in landing her near Greenville. Subsequently the Insurance Co., ogroed to give Copt. Scheuck one dollar per barrel to deliver the, flour iu Kew Orleans., We ■oppose (hut Mr. NoUo will bo entitled to salvage on the wreck and cargo both unless ho r.fmuld see proper to share it with C'apt. Schenck.

ALL’ persons wishing my professional services in the Common Pleas ond Circuit Court of Switzerland county, can leave their orders with W* TL.Kel*o, Recorder of Switzerland county, at the Recorder's office in Vevay, where it will receive prompt attention from me. mar-yT DANtEL KELSO.
