Isdunipou#, Jen. 17,1S57. Mb. Editor — On yesterday morning this city was thrown into a feverish excitement in consequence of the reported failure of the Gramorcy Bank at Lafayette, and tlio Shawnee Bant, at Attica, both old Free Banks, chartered under the old free hanking law of the State. These are both had failures. The consequence is. all the free bank money is touched very carefully. It ia thought by mapy, that it will be very apt to produce a run upon the other Banks from other States, the result ot which would be disastrous to the currency of the-Stale. The cause of these two failures is stated to be this. The Presidents of these two banks came to Mr. Talbott, Auditor of State, a few months since, and re-, quested 'the loan -of the bonds in his bands, which -bad,-been deposited, by them, as security for . the redaipplion of their circulation, giving him pledges of honor and a bond'as his indemnity for the return of the said Bonds in a few
