Miss Nelson recently returned from New York where |

she visited friends. to get a job in her field---fash-fon art. With no intentions of actually staying there, she applied for art work at McCall's magazine and was offered a job. She turned it down but now that she’s back home, she’s beginning to change her mind.

» ” ” SOMETHING new has been added to the Ambulance Group of 1917, The all-men organization has made "Mrs. Mason Light honorary captain. Three board members and six former PTA presidents met to honor Mrs. John MeCullough, the school’s first president in 1910. The luncheon was such an interesting one that the

Scissors for Southpaws

Times Special LAFAYETTE, Sept. 26 Right-handed scissors are difficult for left-handed homemakers to use in their home sewing. Statistics show about 10 per cent of the population is lefthanded, but one manufacturer estimates about 98 or 99 per cent of the scissors are designed for right-handed users. Mrs. Lottie E. Sumner, extension clothing specialist in Purdue University, explains scissors are made so the sharper tapering, more pointed blade should be beneath the fabric being cut. The handles are shaped to fit the right thumb and fingers. The incorrect pressure which a left-handed person uses on right-handed scissors may dull the blagles. » u ” 5 SCISSORS for a left-handed person have the handles reversed to fit the left thumb and fingers. Many manufacturers of scissors are making at least one

| model for left-handed use. If

left-handed homemakers do not find left-handed scissors on the

market, they could ask their dealers to order a pair for { them.

Scissors which may be used either hand have plain handles. They are not shaped to fit a certain hand but may be used by either.

Scandia Line Introduced

A new line of cosmetics, never before carried in Indianapolis, is being introduced by Charles Mayer & Co. Called Scandia, its formula was originated by Dr. Knut Backlund, a Swedish dermatologist, who became internationally famous for his. treatments of skins and complexion problems. The Scandia Cosmetics Corp. won the Charm Institute Gold Medal Quality Award in 195 and 1952 based on quality an purity. Its sale is confined to a few fine stores in this country. Skin beauty is based on the rule of three—cleansing, stimulating and lubricating. These three steps are taken care of with two fine Scandia products, Creme Rose and Eau Mauve. Creme rose is a light cream which contains all the essential gngredients for thorough cleansing, lubricating and conditioning the skin, according to its manufacturers. It is applied for cleansing purposes like any other cream, worked well into the skin, then removed with a turkish towel.

= » 8 IT IS to be followed by Eau Mauve, a delightful refreshener which helps to refine the pores and impart § slow to the skin. For. overnight lubrication, apply a thin film of Creme Rose. During the day the skin should be protected from dirt and makeup with a soothing and lasting powder base. Scandia’s Baume Suedois is recommended for this. It will not clog the pores. A normal skin can be kept in perfect condition with the use of these three simple products, say its makers. An introductory box containing all three is being offered for $6 plus tax. In addition, Scandia offers face powder, lipstick, rouge, eyeshadow and mascara in a delightful assortment of colors, There are special creams for problem skins which should be purchased only upon the advice of Mayer's cosmetic consultants,
