Board Takes Over New Fire Station |
The Safety Board today took formal possession of the first of three new firehouses, and turned it over to Fire Chief Hancoek for operation. The station, to be known as Engine House 20, is located at 1462 N. Emerson Ave. Chief Hancock said it will be staffed and equipped today for operation tomorrow, ,
The building bears a stone
tablet with the names of Repub-|
lican Mayor Clark and present Safety Board members, as well as the building commissioner, the architect and the contractor. At the time the tablet was installed, there was criticism heard from various quarters because Mr. Clark was not in office at the time the buildings were planned and the money raised. The original tablet bore the names of former Mayor Bayt, Democrat, and his safety board. The other two stations are at 900 W. Washington St. §gnd at 46th and Carvel Sts. They are expected to be accepted by the city in three weeks,
