F YOU don't know the canned food code in Joan and Bill Garvey’s home, 3529 Orchard St., you may end up

with an all bean dinner.

Friday, Mr. and Mrs. Garvey were celebrating their

10th wedding anniversary. Mr, Garvey’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. 8. G. Garvey, 1 E. 36th St., asked the couple to pick them up so they could go out to dinner. When the younger Garveys got there, instead of dinner out, there was a surprise party. Since the 10th anniversary denotes tin, guests presented Bill and Joan with a supply of canned goods—minus the Il.bels. Each can had a letter on it cluing the contents. With the gift was a poem which held the code to these letters. And they call these gift-giv-ers friends. : » - ” THERE WAS a lot of handshaking for four lovely Army ladies yesterday in the Camp Atterbury Officers’ reception for Maj. Gen. and Mrs. Hobart R. Gay. The General is the new Post Commander. Greeting almost 1000 guests in the receiving line was Mrs. Gay wearing a navy crepe afternoon dress accented with lace inserts over flesh-colored net, Others in the reception line were Mrs. A. G. Paxton, wife of Maj. Gen. Paxton; Mrs, Eugene Ridings, wife of Brig. Gen. Ridings, and Mrs. J. C. Short, wife of Col. Short. Mrs. Paxton chose a purple taffeta dress with a V-neckline and bouffant skirt. A black faille suit with velvet trim was worn by Mrs. Ridings. A diagonal flounce was fashioned into Mrs. Short’s black crepe dress. Corsages, a white orchid

Just ‘behind the line were the colorful flags of the post, camp and Dixie Division units. Above from the club balcony hung the guidons of the post units. Rain changed the origifial plans for an outdoor reception. But the sun broke through and guests enjoyed concerts by the 267th Army Band and the Dixie Division Band beneath a canopied garden outdoors during the afternoon. u © n
