A Little Boy Was Sacrificed To—'This Mad Speed World’

Eight lose lives in traffic over, week end, Page 14

By DONNA MIKELS

Somehow the coffin seemed too small, It somehow symbolized the tragedy of the death of Tommy Zore, the sacrifice of a little boy to what his parish priest called “this mad speed world.”

Down the aisle of Holy Trinity Catholic Church, where little Tommy had worshiped the 10 years of his life, the tiny coffin was carried this morning. It was preceded by six whiterobed altar boys. and flanked by six of Tommy's fifth grade schoolmates. Lining the church steps or standing with bowed heads in front of nearby Trinity School, the rest of Tommy's schoolmates paused this morning to join in last prayers for the youthful traffic victim, 0

Tommy was bound for the first day of classes at Holy Trinity School last Thursday when a car ripped through a red light at an intersection a block away, striking Tommy and‘ 9-year-old Charleyne Toth, Charleyne was critically injured—little Tommy died the next morning in General Hospital. 3 Today the funeral. procession moved past that intersection of 10th St. and Holmes Ave. At schooltime it was guarded by a police radar car and an accident prevention car—but these came too late to save a little boy inside a tiny coffin. “This tragedy of the past week

You could almost see the scene being etched into the mind of Judge Phillip Bayt, before whose Municipal Court 3 bench last wéek stood 43-year-old Leroy Daniels, the driver whose speed-propelled car roared into Tommy's life and ended it. Daniels, charged with reckless driving and failure to stop for an automatic signal, is slated for hearing in that court Sept, 18. The judge who grew up in the same pdrish with the Zore family, whose children attended Tommy’s school, watched the small

Offer Sewer Extension Plan

By CARL HENN A plan to extend sewer service to thousands of building lots outside the city limits was offered to

the Sanitary Board today. The Marion County Residential Builders association asked for permission to run sewer lines from sanitary lines to new developments, at their own expense, in exchange for agreeing not to protest annexation. The Sanitary Board has refused in the past to extend sewer service to areas outside the city unless owners agree t6 eventual annexation. The plan offered today would obligate residents who accept the service to agree to annexation when 51 per cent of the development had accepted the sewer service.

Big Controversy

It has become a big contro-| |versy in Republican ranks. Many Indiana Ike supporters feel the General should treat Sen. Jenner like he did Wisconsin's Sen, Jo-| seph McCarthy. Gen. EiSenhower said he would back Sen. McCarthy, but would not give him “blanket support,” primarily because the Wisconsin Republican openly attacked Ike's old friend and Army boss, Gen. George C. Marshall. . Sen. Jenner also assailed Gen. Marshall. He called him “a living lie” and “a front man for traitors.” Nevertheless, supporters of Sen. Jenner want—and expect—Gen. Eisenhower to indorse the Indiana Republican. They- point out the overwhelming number of Republicans in Indiana are solidly behind Sen. Jenner. In addition, the Hoosier
