SOUTH BEND — The University of Notre Dame today invited presidential nominees Dwight Eisenhower and Adlai Stevenson to speak to students and faculty on “moral and spirituel issues.” The Very Rev. Theodore M. Hesburgh, CSC, president of the university, sent telegrams to the Republican and Democratic Party standard bearers inviting them to come anytime between Sept. 18 and election day.

" Maybe something will develop so you can pay the fine.” | Then the elderly judge lashed out at the “dastardly man who has gottéen you into this mess.” He said the father should help financially. . But the tearless Sherry, her hands tightly clinched, said she didn’t know his whereabouts. Deputy Prosecutor - Brown said he “hated” to see the child born in prison. But he said Sherry must be punished for her crime. Asked what her future plans were, Sherry grimly replied “I intend to get a job here! : Tommy and a 9-year-old schoolmate, Charleyne Toth, were struck down yesterday morning.

The car which hit them failed to stop for a red light at the intersection, the driver, Leroy Daniels, 43, of 3287 Ralston Ave., admitted to police. Daniels was #rrested on a charge of reckless driving and

Aroused Community Mobilizes to Wipe Out Slaughter in Traffic

By JOE ALLISON ; Total war was in progress today against the city’s “ruthless” drivers.

As the family and school chums of little Tommy Zore ¥ mourned his death today, the forces of an aroused commu-

nity mobilized to end ‘the traffic slaughter. : The police traffic department, traffic judges, Mayor Clark and the Indianapolis Safety Council all moved to stop the deaths. ; ONE: Police ordered special emphasis patrols near schools. TWO: The Safety Council and traffic judges joined in a move expected to sharply reduce speéding here. ; THREE: Mayor Clark issued a “drive safely or else” ultimatum to Indianapolis motorists. . First step was taken by the police who today issued orders for special traffic guard over school areas. ; All police cars were ordered to traffic patrol in school areas while children are on their way to and from school. The traffic duty will take preference over all other police business during those hours except for emergency calls on major crime and accidents. Police cars began their watch on school zones at noon today, acting on orders of In“spector Ralph N. Bader. Drivers Are Warned

“We're going to stop this killing,” said Police Inspector Ralph N. Bader, “We've had out first schoolchild fatality of the year, and if the ; police department can do anything about it that death is going to be the last.” Inspector Bader said arrests
