Special Care Is Require In Bidding Misfit Hand

GP players realize the

dangers inherent in misfit hands. For best results, the bidding of such hands should be developed with great caution. Here is a good rule to

follow. When you recognize a.

misfijt, discount your hand about one trick and bid accordingly from there on. : Mrs. Keen had quite a hand when her partner opened the bidding. But when the opening was a diamond and the rebid two clubs, it seemed probable that there was no suit in which the partnership had as many as eight cards. Therefore Mrs. Keen properly discarded any idea about getting higher than the nine trick spot.

Mr. Muzzy's opening lead was the queen of clubs. As soon as Mr. Dale saw the dummy he noted the flaw which plagues the declarer in all misfits— entry trouble. In fact, right here at trick one the only sure entry to the closed hand was gone. . ® ” ” MR. DALE thought it over. He could cash dummy’s ace and king of diamonds, then lead a spade, If Mr. Champion had

"the ace of spades everything

would be fine as the king would then be an entry for the rest of the diamonds. But if Mr. Muzzy had the ace of spades, it appeared that the contract was hopeless. And it was. Mr. Dale decided he could give himself one added chance —a chance that was better than the line of play described above. That was the chance

that Mr. Muzzy would err on the defense. He let Mr. Muzzy hold the first trick, playing the seven of clubs to make it appear that Mr. Champion’s five spot was a come-on. Mr. Muzzy’s next play solved the whole problem. He continued with the jack of clubs—and off went dummy’s king of diamonds. Mr. Dale won with the king of clubs. He cashed the ace of clubs and got rid of dummy’s last diamond. He was now able tp run off five diamond tricks and these, plus the ace and king of hearts, ‘gave him his game.

OUT oF MEAVY PAPER AND COLOR

My youngest daughter, Jill, just returned from a camp where she learned to make “mobiles.” Mobiles can be made from many different materials, and they are hung in| artistic arrangements to swing in the air currents. They can

in the center of the room. | Two of Jill's are pictured above. The little black and white skunk is cut from paper and hung from a thread. It is| tied, too, to the center of a thread, as shown. The balanced twig turns with the air currents as the skunk turns when the air currents hit its tail. A skunk is a fynny subject since he often needs airing. The elephant is easy to draw. He makes a good subject | because he is so round that he makes a large surface for the

a thirty-inch thread to give them plenty of “moving” room. Why not try using your favorite animal for your mobile?
