First event starts at 7 p. m. There are plenty of seats. And there are 65 stellar acts to thrill you and the family. Preliminary races, starting at 10 a. m., were to cut the field to 110 swimmers for the show tonight. In 28 races, they will compete for honors and attempt to shatter national records.
Army Rangers to Appear
Between the swimming events will be a host of all around water activities. The Boy Scouts will give thrilling canoe racing and tilting exhibitions. A team of Army Engineers will race a Marine Corps Reserve team in assault boats. The winner of the contest for city park pool championship will be announced and Gov. Schricker, and Mayor Clark will be on hand to make the, presentations of medals and trophies. Army Rangers will demonstrate dificult water activities including swimming with full field equipment weighing 35 pounds. An underwater jeep will tour. the pool with only the driver's head and a snorkel above the water.
Baby to Swim
There will be fancy diving and clown diving, fancy water ballet and clown water ballet. One of the high spots will be the swimming demonstration of 18-month-old Lester Hardwick Jr., Misha waka. Lester recently saved his own life by swimming for 10 minutes when a motorboat overturned and drowned an adult companion. Climax of the fast-paced 2!5hour program will be a giant fireworks display. Proceeds for the event will go to help other youngsters learn to swim, so they might as Lester did, save their lives if necessary. Plenty of Good Seats Prices are 60 cents, $1 and $1.50, including federal tax. And there are plenty of good seats in each price group. So don’t miss out. Carnival officials announced her booking today “by popular demand.” Divena calls her act an aquatease. Operating in a small pool with glass fronting the audience, she makes with underwater maneuvers that bring several outer garments floating to the top. The act ends with Diver gracefully showing her well-tanned torso and not much else, Fair officials last year, after considerable scrutiny and argument, decided Divena's less-than-Bikini type bathing suit wasn't enough. Under protest, she added several strands. It didn’t hurt attendance. Divena, who claims to be originator of the act, is Miss Nanette Parker, 24, Detroit. Military police and sheriff's deputies today opened a full scale manhunt for the driver

four children near the military base. The victim, Mrs. Ellsie Oldaker, 32, who lives in a trailer camp on N, Post Road near the base, was in critical condition at General Hospital. She works in the drapery alteration department of L. 8. Ayres & Co. Witnesses said the hit-run car which struck her entered Ft. Harrison shortly afterward. All off-duty military police were called back for assignments to assist sheriff's deputies in a search of the base. Col, E. P. Beyer, post commander, said “every effort” will be expended to find the car and driver.
