level. Mr. Dale didn’t have too much and his spade raise was inserted as possibly the last chance to tell his partner that he had some support for a spade contract in case partner was interested in sacrificing at that suit later on. Mrs. Keen’s three heart bid
showed ample trump support in’
hearts and verified a souhd opening bid. Mr. Champier declined his partner's suggested sacrifice and Mr. Abel, with a little in reserve, properly went on to game, / 2 2% =» WHILE THE BIDDING was sensible enongh, Mr. Abel's play of the hind left something to be desired. He won the spade qgpening with dummy’s ace and
trumps is a laudable practice but sometimes you cannot afford that luxury and the odds favor another line of play. The best play in this deal was to cash the ace and queen of hearts at tricks two and three. That would leave just one trump outstanding and an entry on the board in the form of the king of hearts. 8 » ®
NOW LEAD the king and ace of clubs, then a small club and ruff it in the closed hand. A heart to the king will put dummy in to cash two more clubs. Following this line Mr. Abel wolud have won one spade, five hearts and four clubs for 10 tricks in all.

Ask your friends to save the ends of their used candles, and whittle them down to fit the neck of the bottle. Burn ‘a few down and have the hottle well covered before you |start using it.
A good way to do this is to keep it burning for several \days in the center of your table at meal times. NEVER LEAVE AN UNWATCHED CANDLE BURNING. Stand the candle on an old saucer or plate so the wax will not run on the table. At your next party ask friends to push coins into the hot wax and make their wish.
