This apparently logical suggestion was scotched by Mr. Champion. “If you play your cards right, Heinsite, we can beat him no matter how he plays. Play your nine of hearts on the first trick and let Muzzy win with the jack. Now he has to go after the clubs. When I win with the king I'll have another heart to lead and we can drive out his ace of hearts while you still have the ace of diamonds.” Mr. Champion was right. This is one of the very few situations where it is winning play to “finesse” against your partner rather than to play third hand high. If Mr. Champion had as many as two hearts, this was the only way
