TOKYO, Aug. T—Japanese rearmament, principal target of Commumist policy in the
Far East, is growing steadily despite cansiderable oppositior from the Reds and much soulsearching by the average citizen Its backbone is the so-called “National Police Reserve,” which Premier Shigeru Yoshida said Monday -&s the ‘cornerstone of a new national army.” In addition tnere i8 an infant navy thinly disguised as a “coastal safety’ organization.

Prosecutor Fairchild's announced drive on prostitution was a “phony coverup to permit the continuous operation of bawdy houses here.” . This charge was leveled today by Charles Mains, Democratic -andidate for Marion County Prosecutor. Mr. Holder's group is composed of the “professional” politiclans and Mr. Reid's organization is made up of so-called “amateur” politicians, and rarely has this combination worked out in an election campaign in Indiana. Two previous “harmony” attempts by Mr, Holder have failed. He offered assistant state chairmanship posts to James Knapp, Mr. Craig's campaign manager and Robert Grant, Indiana Eisenhower director. Mr. Knapp at first accepted the post and then resigned. Mr. Grant is expected to refuse the offer shortly. However, Mr. Reid offered to work under Mr. Holder and. the
