By LLOYD B. WALTON 7” “ LAFAYETTE, July 26 — Tippecanoe and Clinton County farmers are in an uproar

over the administration of a hog cholera vaccine recently placed on the market.

Sold under the trade name “Rovac” the vaccine has. been used satisfactorily by most of the | local hog raisers. However, they ] have now been informed the vaccinating can be done only by a licensed veterinarian. And wholesalers handling the product are authorized to sell it only to veterinarians to prevent its direct use by the farmer. “What makes me fighting mad,” said Harry M. Henderson, who lives 4 miles northeast of Payton, Ind, “is that we got to start using it and then they took it away from us.” Paul Finkenbinder, John Haan and Floyd Bolyard are three of the farmers who have used the vaccine fairly extensively.

200 Vaccinated

. “Why, we vaccinated 200 hogs last fall and another 370 head this spring,” Mr. Haan said. “I had a few pigs die, but they were from natural causes and not from the vaccination. None of the other fellows lost a single pig.”

A majority of the farmers feel the veterinarians are responsible for thier not being able to pur- Ss chase the vaccine. They think it §& j8 to enable the veterinarian to collect a fee for something the farmer could do just as well—
