New Paper Doll Aids Child

By BETTY LOCHER

ORE than 500 outstanding playthings, representing the best efforts of top American manufacturers were on display last week at the Toy Guidance Exhibit, New York. Each toy was evaluated by the Toy Guidance educational staff headed by Prof. Emma Sheehy of Columbia University. ‘Toys were judged for their ability to contribute to a child's development as well as to provide fun. Space toys, walking dolls and hobby-craft playthings headed the list. In the hobby-craft playthings, paper dolls introduced by De Journette, Atlanta, Ga., created a minor revolution. The company has made these dolls of tough paper that can be washed and ironed. . ” n

~ THE DOLLS ARE mounted on wooden bases and come with a complete wardrobe of dresses. Some are in bright colors, all ready to wear, while others are in outline form to be colored by the child with crayons or water colors. They can be washed out and recolored, Called Curly-Top, the doll has real hair in blonde, auburn or brunette curls. It rdtes high on the Toy Guidance Council's list of playthings to aid a child's creative ability and will be available in Indianapolis stores around Christmas time, The strongest trend in toys is toward space travel, supplemented by recent'motion pictures and new reports of rockets ‘to the moon, flying saucers, etc, = » s

- THESE NEW science-fiction toys include a rocket gun that shoots rubber darts, a flying saucer gun that projects a spinning top as far as 100 feet through the air, a 3-way light ray gun and a jet plane that fires six streams of water simultaneously out of its rocket guns. 2 Soon to replace Indians and. Cowboys will be Flash Gordon, Around Christmas the new Flash Gordon space suits will be avallable complete with ‘Ytadio antenna hat and magic glasses with one-way - lenses. More necessary equipment will include interplanetary space phones that work without batteries up to a half mile away. There will also be a special 7-foot-high rocket ship that can be constructed from Erec-

Win Confidence of Husband To Find Out His Likes

By RUTH MILLETT HE WIFE of a presidential candidate recently

told a reporter that when she wanted to find out what.

her husband thought about certain topics she invited stimulating company over for the evening, and listened attentively while they drew her husband out. There's a hint there for any wife who doesn’t get very far when she tries to find out what her husband thinks about his or that. A man will often clam up when his wife wants to know how his business is going, or

what he thinks about an im-

«portant matter.

But the minute he gets with a

group of men, interested in the same things he is interested in, he'll open up and say exactly how he feels about various subjects, or come out with information about his business it has never occurred to him to mention to his wife, » » ~ SO IF YOU ever get to feel-

ing out of touch with your hus-

band's real interests, try the trick used by the politician's wife.

Invite some people over that youi know your husband finds mentally stimulating. Then sit back quietly and listen to the

talk. 4 You'll learn all kinds of things you would probably

never know about your husband. There's only one word of cau-
