NEW W YORK. June 30— Showings of fashions by Jo Copeland and "Mollie Parnis climaxed the 19th semi-
annual press week sponsored by 5
the New York Dress Institute. . Jo Copeland believes in a glamorous covered-up mood even in evening clothes, She loves the combination of unexpected fabrics and shows a winter weight beige corduroy coat trimmed with a mink shawl collar. The coat hangs straight from shoulder to knees, then flares, This silhouet is recurrent in many of the high fashion houses and undoubtedly points a trend.
s - ® HER CORDUROY suits are casual but elegant with match-
ing satin ascots and blouses.’
She does a group of chiffon tweed dresses with midriffs of crushed taffeta that makes them very dressy. Many of her slim skirts are cut on the bias. A new fabric is imported wool plaid overlaid with black satin overstripe. She loves navy jersey with bronze belts and buttons, spool walstlines wrapped in taffeta from under the bust to well down on the hip. y In the evening collection there is a black chiffon gown with high neck and long sleeves over a bouffant gold lame slip. Her peacock dress is a slim sheath of peacock iridescent sequins with a spread of net panels in the same glorious colors fanning out from one hip to the floor. 8 ” n ON THE GREAT walstline question, Mollie Parnis is a happy fence-sitter. She shows fool-the-eye walistlines which rise high to the bosom or low to the hipline with self bands, cuff folds, yokes or wide sashes, but are always fitted to the natural curves. She believes in plenty of full skirts for afternon and cocktail dresses. Most of these are youthfully prim with long sleeves and high round necklines. Lovely sheer Diack woot or taffeta suits that can L vening.
“of shirred taffeta set in across the shoulder and hips of the fitted jacket. For evening she introduces miniature “mask” jackets barely covering the bosom and lined with gay, contrasting silk which mask and unmask a bare-topped bodice, The sweater-girl feeling is strong, not only in wool daytime dresses but in pintucked taffeta that gives a sweater rib and sweater shape to the top of afternoon and evening dresses,
