Army Causing Shortage of Office Help

By DON TEVERBAUGH The Army Finance Corps, spreading its roots deep into the Indianapolis economy, is

today both a two-headed ogre;

and a well-heeled patron to toeal]

businessmen. | It brings along from St. Louis! a lush payroll, jobs for about 3800/ focal workers and adds a definite! stability to the area's income. But some businessmen are grip-| ing that the Finance Center is stealing their regular help, par-| ticularly the typists and clerical employees. They pay a little higher. | Starting typists have been get-| ting about $42 per week, some| as high as $45. But the Finance Center offers Civil Service jobs| that pay about $52 per week to: start for beginning typists.

Indiana Trust was founded in 1893 and is the oldest in the Hoosier state.

Ford Production Slows

The steel strike has -hit the Ford Motor Co. Production will continue at full scale today, but cuts start tomorrow and will increase throughout the week. Assembly work, already slowed up, will be at a standstill tomorrow. It means layoffs for some 22,000 Ford workers,

Flying Families

The CAA has given the nod to Eastern Ale Line for use of the Family Plan again this year. The idea was first adopted by Eastern in "¢0 and originated by American Airlines. It helps balance the load. Mondays, Tuesday and Wednesdays are the weak sisters for flights: The family plan, which drops fares for mom and all the kids (under 22 years) to half fare if pop goes along, makes these| days compare with the peak days.
