‘House May Kill Wage Controls
In Next Step
By United Bree 1 WASHINGTON, June 21— Democratic Whip J. Percy Priest, predicted today a rebellious House, which already has voted to kill price controls, will move!
next to strip the administration’ of its authority to control wages. The amendment -riddled con-
trols bill, which presently would
decontrol virtually everything but,
wages and rents, will come up for another round of voting in the House next Wednesday.
Rep. Priest told a reporter he
thought the House would be consistent and vote to kill wage controls, too-—unless it reverses itself on price controls. Despite the numerous rebuffs handed the administration by a RepublicanSouthern Democratic coalition, the Tennessee Democrat thought the latter was still a possibility. “If the House keeps wage controls in the bill, I don’t think it will vote to kill price controls on the final rollcall. vote,” Rep. Priest said. As it stands now, the House bill would kill all credit controls.

Canada Seeks British
Aid in Seaway Project LONDON, June 21 (UP)—Britain may come to Canada’s aid in building the St. Lawrence Sea-|
way because of the U, 8.'s re-|
fusal to help.
Informed sources said Canadian High Commissioner Norman Robertson has been consulting British government and {ndustrial representatives on possible British assistance. Mr. Robertson was reported to have emphasized his government fs ready and anxious to plac large orders with British heavy| electrical and engineering firms. However, the situation is complicated by Britain's own :short~ age of steel and the demands of | rearmament on British industry. An unofficial British mission may go to Canada soon to make further studies. Among those whom Mr. Robertson has consulted have been representatives of Britain's leading industrial firms, the Commonwealth Relations Office, the Supply Ministry, and the Board of Trade.
