Religious and civic leaders of Indianapolis have urged Presi-/ dent Truman to veto the McCar-| ran-Walter Immigration Bills recently passed by congress. | Protestant, Catholic and Jew-| ish clergy and laymen as well as other prominent citizens of the, city sent a telegram to the Presi-| dent, The message reads: “We .. . are deeply concerned with the! recent passage of the McCarran-| Walter Immigration Bills by Congress. We believe that the bills have many unfortunate restrictions and discriminatory features which depart from the traditional American concepts of civil rights and fair play. We urge you to veto this legislation.”
