The eight previous times were “vacations” to permit him to scare up enough money to purge. himself of the contempt citation. He managed to net $170,000 altogether. Knetzer's original scheme was in strict defiance of the principles of finance. He set up shop in an alfalfa field outside Edwardsville, Ill. After a faltering start, he sold cars for as much as $1000 less than what they had cost him. His fame spread. He began accepting deposits, He used a portion of! this money to buy new cars.
