RFC Approves $45 Million Loan

WASHINGTON, June 168 (UP) —The Reconstruction Finance Corp. yesterday announced approval of a $45 million loan to| « * the Detroit Steel Corp. to help it] complete expansion of its Portsmouth, O,, plant. The RFC loan represents about 75 per cent of the total cost of the expansion, which will increase the company’s steel ingot production from 660,000 to 1,290,000 tons a year and will provide finishing facilities to convert the entire ingot production into finished steel. Approval of the loan was contingent upon private interests investing at least $13,950,000 in the project. The Defense Production Administration already has granted the company a certificate of necessity permitting a rapid if write-off for tax purposes of the expansion costs.
