in 8t. Vincent's Hospital Apr. 20, eight days after he was knifed in the chest in their combination home and office at 913 E. 42nd St. Mrs. Barber was not arrested until her husband died because he had refused, to prosecute, police paid. At a preliminary hearing, Mrs. Barber told police, the quarrel started at the dinner table when she told their son, Robert, to go upstairs and wash his hands. Dr. Bar told Robert “Don’t pay any attention to her,” and accused his wife of “always picking on him,” she added. After the boy went upstairs, Mrs. Barber told police her husband who she said had been drinking, began hitting her. “I pushed him and the next thing I knew the knife was in his: back,” Mrs. Barber said. She explained that her husband had fallen backward against a carving knife which lay on the buffet. But an investigation by Coroner Roy Storms showed Dr. Barber had been stabbed in the chest and slashed on the elbow. The Grand Jury returned a total: of 13 indictments on this Friday the 13th. } Among them was a reckless homicide charge filed against James R. Hutton, 44, of 1307!
