Man Fined After |

Chateau Club Raid

The Circuit today affirmed ‘a conviction but knocked out the jail sentence in an arrest growing out of the recent series of raids on the Chateau Club. It was the first hearing on a series of appeals which grew out of mass arrests and convictions in a series of keek-end raids on the North Side after-hours spot. Today's cose involved Nolan White, 317g: Illinois St. one of 49 persons arrested in the raids. White was convicted of drunkenness and given a 10-day jail sentence and $55 fine by Speedway Magistrate George Obed. Today Judge Lloyd D. Claycombe accepted White's guilty plea on appeal. He reduced the fine to $5 and eliminated the jail sentence. This ond other convictions in the Speedway court were appealed {by persons arrested in the oft|raided hot spot, the former Showboat.

Police said a truck driven by Lavern Jorgeson, Lexington, was making a left turn when Mr. Grubbe’s car collided with it. They said Grubbe apparently did not see the truck until too late. Mr. Grubbe's wife, Gertrude, was injured and was taken to a Lexington hospital. The death was the 119th for Nebraska this year, with 114 at this time last year.
