Farmers Get ew Draft Deferment

: By United Press MADISON, Wis,, June 11—Col. Bentley Courtenay, state Selec[tive Service Director, announced a new draft deferment program for Wisconsin farmers yesterday. The system, drawn up by an advisory sub-committee of farm organization officials and an agricultural economist, will ge into effect immediately. It provides that a farm worke

service board. : County agricultural mobilization committees will compute the value of each crop to “the national well-being” on a basis of hours worked, Total hours will be divided by the number “bf hands working on the farm, with the local board having the final say on deferment, Committee members said the plan ‘adds total production instead of the number of acres tilled or livestock fed, as was the case under a rescinded 1948 law. Mr. Courtenay said he “desires an honest and consciéntious trial” of the program, which he said gives local boards a “precise classification yardstick.”
