Barbless Hooks Urged G. S. Geroulis For Fishermen’s Use

BY United Press MIAMI, Fla., June 10—Experts giving outdoor writers the low-down on America's outdoor sportsmen claimed today that many modern hunters and fishermen know less about wildlife conservation than Eskimos and Indians. For one thing, said John Hunter Jr, widely - known sportsman, Eskimos and Cree Indians of the Northwest will refuse to guide a greedy huntter or fisherman on a second trip if he has proven himself to be a “game hog.” Hunter, of Hollidaysburg, Pa, told members of the OQutdoor Writers of America gathered here that in addition to sparing unneeded game, sportsmen should use barbless hooks when fishing so they can release unharmed any fish they do not need for food. “There appears to be an assumption that the supply of salt water fish is inexhaustible,” he said. “It should be realized that there is relatively a small part of the oceans

A group of chemists addressing the 6-day gathering of association members believe the outdoor sportsmen are not alone to blame for needless loss of the nation’s wildlife resources, however. Some harm, a panel agreed, is caused by chemicals
