Sermon of the Week—

‘The Sower’

Scripture: “He that hath ears to hear, let him hear.” Luke 8:8,

IN THE GOSPEL of.

Luke we read: “Jesus went on through cities and villages preaching and bringing the good news of the kingdom of God. He said: ‘A sower went out to sow his seed; and as he sowed, some fell along the path, and was trodden under foot , , . And some fell on the rock; and as it grew up, it withered away . .. And some fell among thorns; and the thorns choked it. And some fell into good soil and grew.’ As he said this, he called out, ‘He who has ears to hear, let him hear.” The parable of The Sower, like all the parables of the Kingdom, reminds us that the Kingdom is God's Kingdom, He is.the creator of the seed and He is the Great Sower. We are the soil on which, and in which, the seed is sown. Our attitude toward the seed, the truth of God, is not always the same. All of us at times reflect the four types of soil of this parable: The hard pathway, the shallow rocky ground, the briar-patch, and the good earth.

” = » SELFISHNESS, conceit, arro-gant-pride and other attitudes make ‘a hard path in our lives so that when the seed of God's

critical truth falls upon it, we refuse to let it enter our lives, but gladly see it taken by the birds or by the wind and planted in a meighbor's field. All of us are continually tempted to ward off the judgment of God for ourselves and point out how truly His word fits our neighbor.

There are times when we have our minds open and our hearts

closed. We listen as long as it is interesting and entertaining. The Gospel was never meant to be entertaining. It was meant

AT OUR BEST, we wish to be fruitful soil for the seed which God is continually sow«ing in the furrows of our lives, We would be receptive to the Word as we hear it in church; through our private and family devotions; as God speaks to us in the beauty and goodness of
