Phipps Slaying Trial | Delayed Until Fall
BRAZIL, June 6 (UP)—The trial of John J. “Junior” Phipps, | former. Freedom High School basketball star, charged with first degree murder in the death of Warren Johnson, 42, today was postponed until September. | The trial was recessed when, Judge Robert B. Stewart was stricken with a slight heart at-| tack. Phipps indicated he pre-| ferred to sit out the summer in| Clay County Jail rather than have a special judge named. i Phipps and Jerry Parrish, 20, were indicted in Owen County last Oct. 5 in the beating-death of Mr. Johnson, a former Owen County deputy sheriff. The trial was moved to Clay County on a change of venue.

Many Re-examined 4-Fs Put in 1-A Category
WASHINGTON, June 6 (UP)— Selective Service reported today that re-examination of 4-Fs is producing “substantial numbers” of men reclassified 1-A and available for military service. From Jan. 1 through Mar, 31, the agency said, 9638 men who had been rejected previously for | military service were reclassified 1-A. That was almost 28 per cent of the 34,810 men re-examined.
