3d Shooting In 24 Hours
Prisoners Fly Banners Again
By United Press KOJE ISLAND, Korea, June 3 —An accidental burst of fire from a guard's heavy machine gun killed a Communist prisoner
other. It was the tHird shooting in less than 24 hours that has angered and embarrassed Brig. Gen. Haydon L. (Bull) Boatner in his efforts to restore order in the prison compounds of this island with a minimum of bloodshed. Tensions heightened as prisoners defiantly raised a new flagpole to replace the one flattened by a Patton tank yesterday. They mocked the United Nations command with “funeral” services for five prisoners killed when a work detail revolted Friday. The machine gun, pointed at the fence of Compound 78, went off at 10:20 a. m. Prisoners refused to release the body of the victim or send out the wound man for medical care. One prisoner was wounded yesterday by a South Korean guard whom he had jeered and stoned. Another was shot in the leg last night while attempting-to*escape = from hik compound. * A North Korean officer was killed last Thursday by accidental

PUSAN, Korea, June 3 (UP)— The Korean National Assembly was rendered powerless to act in the South Korean political crisis today by the absence of 100 members. The absentees included 52 of the 54 legislative supporters of President Syngman Rhee, who is feuding with the assembly. Most of the other 48 absentees apparently feared Mr. Rhee might have

today won leniency from a sympathetic judge. Pvt. Larry Earl Pace, 20, af 2925 E. 18th 8t., and William G.| McCotter, 19, of 2633 E. 18th St., pleaded guilty to the Feb. 4 holdup of Red Cab Driver Jack Horsley. Pvt. Pace told Judge Harry O. Chamberlain, Criminal Court 1,
he planned the holdup to get|
money for dental work. He said his gun was not loaded and he was not in uniform at the time. McCotter told the judge he had passed entrance examinations for the Marine Corps and was waiting to enlist pending the oujcome of the trial. : Pointing out that neither \youth had a previous record, Judge Chamberlin sentenced each to one year on the State Farm. But he suspended the sentences saying: “I'm doing this to allow the Armed Services to admit you. If you don't get in, I will consider it grounds for revocation of these suspended sentences.” “It’s a horrible thing when two young men like you endanger a man’s life for a paltry $11,” Judge Chamberlin said.
